Four 2009-Born Goaltenders Poised for Breakout Seasons in Nova Scotia U18 Hockey League

The Nova Scotia U18 Hockey League (NSU18MHL) is always a hotbed for up-and-coming talent, and this season all eyes will be on four 2009-born goaltenders who are making their debuts in the league. Kael Campbell, Maddox Neumann, Jared Sorhaindo, and Jack Bell will be under the spotlight as they compete for their respective teams in their first season eligible for the QMJHL draft. Each has shown tremendous potential at the U15 level, and with their QMJHL draft year approaching, scouts will be keeping a close watch on their performances. Here’s a look at what makes each of these young goalies stand out.

Kael Campbell – March and Mill Co. Hunters

Kael Campbell will be suiting up for the newly founded March and Mill Co. Hunters this season, entering the U18 league with sky-high expectations. Campbell is no stranger to success, having shattered records at the U15 level, including setting the new NS U15 league record for career wins. His debut season with the Gulls was spectacular, as he made history with an unbeaten 18-0 record.

Known for his exceptional positional play and powerful lateral movements, Campbell is a goaltender who thrives in challenging situations. His ability to stay square to the shooter and explode across the crease with well-timed pushes makes him incredibly tough to beat. As he transitions into the U18 league, the spotlight will be on him to see if he can continue his record-breaking form. With his high-level consistency and track record of success, Campbell is expected to attract significant attention from scouts as one of the top goaltending prospects in the region.

Maddox Neumann – Valley Wildcats

Maddox Neumann will be minding the net for the Valley Wildcats this season, and at 6’2”, he already possesses the size and frame that scouts love in a goaltender. Neumann is a positionally sound goalie, known for his calm demeanor and ability to control the play. His development over two seasons with the U15 Bage City Valley team has been remarkable, improving his save percentage (SV%) from .872 in his first year to a stellar .921 in his second.

Neumann’s game truly shines under pressure, as demonstrated by his outstanding playoff performance last season where he posted a 1.53 goals-against average (GAA) and a .960 SV%. His ability to rise to the occasion in clutch moments will be crucial for the Wildcats as they compete for a top spot in the league. With his combination of size, technical soundness, and steady improvement, Neumann is sure to have scouts paying close attention as he aims to continue his upward trajectory in the U18 league.

Jared Sorhaindo – Weeks Majors

Jared Sorhaindo will be taking on the competition with the Weeks Majors this season, and he’s already made quite the name for himself as a dynamic, game-changing goaltender. Sorhaindo was instrumental in the U15 Bandits’ success last year, boasting a flawless 4-0 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .936 SV% en route to a Provincial title. His reputation for making sensational, highlight-reel saves has earned him plenty of admiration, but what makes Sorhaindo truly stand out is his consistency.

Though not the tallest goalie, Sorhaindo’s ability to read the play and track the puck is second to none. His reflexes and sharp hockey IQ allow him to anticipate plays and react quickly, making up for any size disadvantage he may have. Widely regarded as one of the best pure puck trackers entering the U18 league, Sorhaindo’s skill set will make him a major asset for the Weeks Majors. As scouts assess goaltenders for the upcoming QMJHL draft, Sorhaindo’s ability to combine flash with reliability will certainly keep him on their radar.

Jack Bell – Cape Breton Islanders

Jack Bell, freshly named to Team Nova Scotia, will be suiting up for the Cape Breton Islanders this season. Bell has been quietly but steadily improving his game, and his strong fundamentals have earned him a reputation as a very consistent and dependable goalie. Known for rarely being out of position, Bell always gives himself a chance to make even the most difficult saves look routine.

Last season with the U15 Novas, Bell posted a solid 12-5 record, along with a 2.42 GAA and a .908 SV%, showing that he can deliver reliable performances game after game. His calm presence in net and ability to maintain positioning under pressure will be key assets for the Islanders as they aim to compete in the highly competitive U18 league. As Bell continues to refine his skills, his steady approach to goaltending will surely draw the attention of scouts looking for consistency and dependability in a prospect.

With the QMJHL draft looming, this season will be a pivotal one for Kael Campbell, Maddox Neumann, Jared Sorhaindo, and Jack Bell. All four goaltenders have shown immense potential at the U15 level, and now they’ll have the opportunity to prove themselves in the Nova Scotia U18 Hockey League. As they each look to make their mark, expect scouts to be watching closely as these four promising goalies take the next step in their hockey careers.
